Physalis pruinosa - Ground Cherry "Happily berry after": seeds
This is a productive annual ground cherry that happily produces bountiful fruit from self sown seedlings. Fruit are delicious and will store for a period of time if left in their papery calyxes. I no longer have to plant this bonus fruit but rely upon them to serendipitously appear in disturbed ground.
Mother genetics was from a variety of commonly available varieties including various pineapples, golden bells, aunt molly and so forth. When I become interested in a plant, I get whatever varieties seem promising and then select from there. These have self selected for self seeding. My understanding is this is a common trait among small fruited nightshades, even cherry (and early) tomatoes!
Physalis sp.* "Willy Nilly Tomatilly" Tomatillo
Delightful semi-upright tomatillo with large, purple blushed fruits. Amount of coloration varies. Some that ripen almost white, have true blue on them. Has become our staple tomatillo. Excellent sliced and dried, stored in husk for weeks or chopped and frozen. We often add it to sauces to give a hint of citrus. *Sent to me as the species subglabrata

"One Penny Squash" Landrace Butternut- seeds
A free project to get people excited about seed saving and plant breeding. A modern landrace is a genetically diverse mix of a species selected for a particular use in a particular region. In this case, we are selecting butternut squash that grow well around here. All we ask is that you return some seed from your grow out. This is the last year I am hosting this project but I finally found a shorter name for it then Public Participatory Cucurbita moschata Butternut Squash Landrace Project for Eastern Ontario. Hooray for that! It is now called "One Penny Squash" Better late than never.
